Latest screens and full info inside

Fans of PC-based rally sims may well remember the original Xpand Rally title, from back in 2004. Developer Techland has just sent us the latest details on the follow-up to that game, with Xpand Rally Xtreme due on PC sometime early 2007. Check out this latest batch of screens from the game, which, we think you will agree, look pretty damn impressive.

Xpand Rally Xtreme is set to include a wide array of 15 cars in 23 versions, including 8 completely new models, 5 rally sceneries (China, Malaysia, Italy, Japan, USA) and 67 individual races, with three modes of play - Career mode, Single Race and Multiplayer.

SPOnG remembers three things that stood out about the original Xpand Rally: the impressive car physics; the detailed car damage modelling; the realistic re-creations of some of the best known sections of the most extreme rallies in the world.

XRX, we are informed, builds on these features of the original game, plus it has worked on the dynamics of the gameplay to ensure the game will appeal to hardcore rally sim fans at one extreme, and casual rally arcade fans at the other.

SPOnG will bring you our opinion on whether Techland has achieved this impressive-sounding feat as soon as we get hold of a preview version of the game.

Adrian Ciszewski, XRX project manager at Techland, says of the new title, “We want players to experience first-hand for the first time in that scale the emotions of a rally driver. The speed, raw engine power, narrow, uneven roads, blind curves that you can get through only if you listen to your pilot, dangerous jumps, which cause the car to soar through the air and the need to make numerous technical decisions every second. They’ll get to see all this in new, stunning graphics, thanks to the latest incarnation of the ChromeEngine.”
