Let's hope it's tears of joy for Sony before too long
Sony has viralled its way into smash-hit Google-site, YouTube with the latest ad for the PlayStation 3. At least we Europeans can get to see the advert before March.
On the same day as declaring a massive 94% loss in net profit for July: 1.7 billion yen (£7.5 million), from 28.5 billion yen in the same period last year, Sony’s unleashed a crying, demon baby as the advertising face of the PS3.
The losses are being put down to a hellish laptop battery recall combined with the research and development spend made by the company on its next-gen PlayStation 3 console.
Nintendo, on the other hand, is bullish with a tripling of its profits for the same period.
The scary weeping baby could also be coming out in sympathy for jobs 6% of its workforce (10,100 people) who have been ‘eliminated’ from the employee roster. This figure was declared alongside the sell-off of US$1.1 billion worth of assets on October 26th as a calming pill to stock markets and shareholders.
UPDATE You can now download the vid in multiple delicious formats directly from SPOnG, right here;
Jesuuuuus! That's horrible. Urgh! But just like the Wii @ times square advert yesterday, it says nothing about what a PS3 is. Apart from that it makes freaky babies cry.

Wow, i watched the video on google and i was like wtf? but i just saw it during a football game (american) on my 52 inch hdtv, and it freaked me the f**k out. and It had all these ambient sounds, and the sound of the baby laughing, and if you look in its eyes, its playing resistance the fall of man in its eyes, and it was actually really cool. but i couldnt even make out the 11/17 release date thing. i mean i know it, but noone else who didnt already know it will. all in all, it freaked me out, but i liked it.

Well, it's similar in that it's completely different.
This one is really light, that one is really dark.
This one has a scary plastic baby, that one had a real human mail.
This one refers to scary baby things, and that one refers to classic surrealism and the films of Jean Cocteau.
But the ARE both weird.

dumbest. console. advert. ever.
Oh come on, it's quite obvious that the advert is showing us the existential angst of the traditional toy being replaced by modern technology. Then the doll is captivated by the enjoyment that the new console can provide and the tears dry up.
Or something.

I thought about that for a while. Or I ordered Karl Rove and Richard (but whe call him Dick) Cheney to think about it for me.
And we've decided to go with the "Or something" option, or something.

Force-feeding a real baby with a PS3, now that would have been a scarey ad. This one is only scarey if your a plastic parent. Rubbish.

Or a desperately obvious attempt to be edgy, and irritating at the same time.

How will they get the babys inside the breezeblock? Whats with the blu-ray anyhow? Is it like Blutac in that it sticks around for ages and then leaves a stain after you remove it from wall?
