A working title at this time, Prisoners of War will be developed by Wide Games with a strong presence of stealth-based gameplay. It is the first in a wave of next-generation titles published under the Codemasters name.
Prisoners of War is set in the early stages of the Second World War across four German prison camps. Here, you will play four captured officers of the allied countries of Britain, France, Holland and the USA. Each have unique strengths and weaknesses as escape artists, but all share a single goal; to escape their captors. Tackling an escape-proof prison camp will demand stealth strategies for all four scenarios.
Currently slated for release on PC and PlayStation 2, Prisoners of War utilises the 3D Atlas engine to achieve atmospheric gameplay settings, in both night and day scenarios. The game will be targeted toward mature audiences, and will features dramatic cut-scenes of the escapees in their fight for freedom. Unpleasant FMV will be shown to players who get caught and are forced to face degrading punishments.
Codemasters’ Chief Executive, David Darling, emphasised their focus on Prisoners of War excitedly. "Prisoners of War marries a balance of stealth and action, creating an immersive gameplay experience. Coming from Wide Games, it's one of seven projects currently being created by external development partners. We have had great success working with external teams and they remain an important part of our ongoing development plans. "
Prisoners of War is scheduled for a pre-Christmas winter 2001 release.
