Studio bows out with Euro Okami

Capcom has announced that it is closing down its Clover Studio, the guys responsible for the Viewtiful Joe series, God Hand and the critically lauded Okami. The studio is scheduled to close at the end of March 2007, once the European versions of Okami and God Hand have been completed.

The company issued a statement today simply saying, ?Clover Studio has met the goal of developing unique and creative original home video game software, however, in view of promoting a business strategy that concentrates management resources on a selected business to enhance the efficiency of the development power of the entire Capcom group, the dissolution of Clover Studio has been raised and passed at a Board of Directors' meeting.?

Rumours doing the rounds suggest that the closure was precipitated by Clover Studio personnel planning to leave Capcom and form their own development studio.

We'll be looking find out the real reasons for the closure in the coming days. Check out SPOnG?s Okami page for the latest info and assets on this beautiful looking game.

What will come of viewtiful Joe 3?!?

My first impression was this sucks that a original gaming company has been shut down, but I didn't hear of the rumour that clover studio personal might have been involved.

Alas, this still does suck

I don't think the closure of Clover will be the end of Viewtiful Joe - it is Capcom's IP after all. As great as the first VJ was though, does anybody really care if this series dies now?

Don't get me wrong - I absolutley love the concept but I don't think anybody wants to see VJ 3, 4, 5, 6, Alpha, Zero or even "HD" <shudders>

Now, I hate to see the magic of viewtiful Joe ruined myself, but VJ2 and 1 both said that they were part of a trilogy, and the end of VJ2 its sets itself up for the third installment. I just wanna see the trilogy completed.
