New Brain Training Titles Announced for DS

More frontal-lobe flexing courtesty of 505 Games.

The greatest form of flattery, as we all know, is imitation. Publisher 505 Games is certainly aware of this well-worn maxim, as it announces today that it is to publish two brain training titles for DS next month.

The Professor's Brain Trainer: Logic and The Professor's Brain Trainer: Memory promise to “...provide players of all ages with everything they need for a full course of stimulation, learning and brain training.”

What’s more, they’ve even been developed in conjunction with a real Professor - Dr. Makoto Shichida, professor at the University of Newport. That’s Newport in Japan, not the run-down Welsh border town west of the Severn Bridge!

What a splendid idea! Develop a fun game which is also good for our brains and is sure to appeal heavily to parents buying up Xmas pressies in the next couple of months. And then get a real Prof. to add his name to it to give it just that little bit more value. SPOnG is sometimes amazed and baffled where some of these games publishers get their inspiration from.

Here’s the first bunch of screenshots from both titles – The Professor’s Brain Trainer: Logic focuses on logic problems, mathematical ability and concentration, while The Professor’s Brain Trainer: Memory aims to enhance the player’s memory and visual association as well as concentration. Concentration is key, it seems.

Both titles are full-price releases, so SPOnG hopes that they bring something new to this flourishing genre, and are different enough to Nintendo's own offerings to warrant the full-price tag.

If SPOnG was in a more cynical mood, we might comment on the fact that Nintendo’s Big Brain Academy and Professor Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? are both well worth the money and available now, most likely at a bit of a budget price point, as they've both been out (and selling rather well) for some time.
