PS3's Resistance: Fall of Man – Latest Screens

Latest screens of Insomniac’s next-gen gem

Posted by Staff
Insomniac’s rather tasty looking PS3 first-person shooter, Resistance: Fall of Man, is one of Sony’s big hitters in its next gen launch line-up, and you can see the latest screens we've just received right here.

The storyline, if you aren’t familiar with it, goes something like this; Set in a frightening, alternate 20th century reality, the U.S. and Britain band together in a last-ditch effort to save Europe and Asia from a horrific scourge.

No! Not Communism! This time around the scourge is ‘the Chimera’ - described as a horrific species of unknown origin.

Humanity’s hope for survival is slim and the tide of the battle rests on the shoulders of U.S. Army Ranger, Sgt. Nathan Hale. Just what Britain always needs really - a good old helping hand from friendly Uncle Sam!

Sony’s press release informs us that Insomniac Games (the Ratchet and Clank people, you may remember) “has created a truly next-generation experience featuring smarter enemies, a wide variety of horrifying creatures, physics-based weaponry, playable vehicles and highly detailed, diverse environments... Players will be challenged online and offline as Resistance: Fall of Man delivers an engaging single player campaign, a co-operative mode and one of the most complete multiplayer offerings in a console game.”

Is Resistance (whisper it) the PS3’s ‘Halo killer’? Fanboys of all persuasions can argue this one in the forums.

Of course, if you are also unlucky enough to be residing currently in Europe, you will have to wait until March next year to play this cracking looking alternate-reality FPS.

While I'm not going to jump on the "halo rules all!!1" bandwagon, as bungie has proven they are certainly not infalable, i will say that these screens (much like the just released MGS4 ones) are some what underwhelming.

I mean, they look good, but, nothing btter than what the 360's been doing. I know a large portion of the PS3's price is in the Blu-ray, but i expected a bit more of a step up. Perhaps the difference is in seeing like 60 of those characters running around a giant map all at the same time, but by standard FPS game comparisons, it really looks kinda (dont hate me for this sony lovers) quake4-ish. :/

I personaly was all set to buy my first sony console with the PS3 (eventually, im not wealthy enough to get one at launch) but unless they can show that it really is superior to the 360 then i don't know that i will ever have reason to bother.

your not gonna see much difference between the two (if any) graphics wise they are almost identical.

Its all gonna be in the exclusives and judging by what they have at X06, Sony are in trouble

No Halo isn't everything, but it seems to be the game that every FPS is judged against?.... just lazy journalism.

That's not true! we compare things to doom and half-life all the tiem as well! ;)

Besdies, are we supposed to compare and contrast with perfect dark? In order to make the views expressed as clear as possible comparing things to "popular" things makes the most sense.
