Bored of all the Nintendo Wii puns doing the rounds? Fear not, as Sega's Japanese wing announces Seaman 2, a rework of the Dreamcast cult classic in development exclusively for PlayStation 2.

1UP reports that this time your half man, half fish buddy has been replaced by a very small angry caveman. The story tells that a species of miniature Neanderthals was discovered in a cave in China. Although extinct, a Russian lab replicated their DNA and has started cloning them as pets. The player takes on one of the first 3,000 retail clones to be released, likely to be a less impressive retail accolade than picking up a PlayStation 3 at launch.

Little was explained aside from "it'll be the same as the last one except with a little man and better" though a new controller was mentioned. Again, a frustrating lack of detail was offered by Sega with the only information made available being the fact that the controller will feature a microphone, allowing you to talk with your Seaman.

Launching in Japan early next year, no mention was made of a US or European release.

Yours truly wonders when these Japanese companies will discover that off-beat games like these sell better on Nintendo platforms than on Sony platforms... even when outnumbered 5 to 1.

This would have been a perfect fit for DS...
oh, well.
