It seems that girls do not have the monopoly on accessorising, what with online retailer GameStop today listing a number of Wii add-ons and accessories available now for pre-order, including an HD Premium Component Cable ($59.99) and a Controller Glove ($9.99) and sling bag ($29.99).
Also listed are a Travel Case, 512MB and 1GB SD cards, Wii Game Wallet, S-Video Premium AV Cable and a Wii Storage and Protection 1.0GB Kit.
Now, hold on a second here. Why there is a HD Premium Component Cable when Wii does not support high definition strikes SPOnG as more than a little odd, and we spoke to various sources within Nintendo UK earlier today who voiced the same concerns. It does make us suspect that someone at GameStop is perhaps jumping the gun a little, selling as-yet-unannounced Wii peripherals that have no apparent use!
However, it's good to know that we'll be able to get our hands on some fancy little Wii bags in order to cart around our beautiful little console to amaze all our non-gaming friends and family this coming Christmas. Perhaps Microsoft would like to introduce similar carrying accessories for the Xbox 360. Like, for example, 'the official Xbox 360 shopping cart' or 'the official Xbox 360 radio-controlled carry buggy' and so on.
We put a call into Nintendo's PR office and we we're told, as we expected, that they 'don't comment on rumour or speculation and will be making a number of major Wii announcements at the ExCel event this coming Friday'. So there you have it. SPOnG will be making the trip to our least favourite conference venue this Friday, travelling deep into London's crack-infested East End in order to bring you all the official Wii announcements the second they are made.
And in future, for the record, SPOnG urges Nintendo to please make any future announcements in nice, leafy north London or in designer-festooned, shiny West London or even in the highly fashionable West End of London town. It's not fair to expect us to gamble with our lives on the Docklands Light Railway of Doom in order to finally find out the
Wii will cost £149 and be released on November 24th.
