Capcom's Jun Takeuchi, one of the producers of the increasingly interesting Lost Planet, has made some confusing comments about the future of the work-in-progress shooter, with a recent interview casting doubt on the title remaining an Xbox 360 exclusive.
Speaking to 1-Up in an recently, Takeuchi said, "We will try to keep it as a 360 exclusive. But, from the company's point of view, when you think about the business, in the future [porting the game to PS3 is] something we might have to do." However, these comments do look to be a case of a developer speaking out of turn. Capcom has made noise to shareholder of late stating it will release games intended solely for a Western audience. In the past, Capcom has always maintained its core strength is a foundation in the Japanese market that Western audiences also enjoy. The company's recent comments put a few noses out of joint, especially in the Japanese specialist press.
This revised company line was reinstated with a quote from Takeuchi, no doubt prompted by an in-attendance press officer. "We hope that more Japanese publishers realise there are more markets outside of Japan..."
A port of Lost Planet for PlayStation 3 is unlikely, though the game could make its way to PC in the not-too distant future, coded at a third-party studio. We'll keep you updated as anything changes.
