Guitar Hero 2: Euro Unveiling in Edinburgh Next Week

Plus, new game information

SPOnG’s just received a glut of new info and details on the sequel to one of our favourite games of 2006. Guitar Hero II is to get its European debut at the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival (EIEF) on Tuesday 22nd August.

So if you are in Edinburgh next week, SPOnG’s advice would be to ignore all the wannabe drama students and the booze-soaked not-so-alternative-anymore comedians and head down to EIEF to check it out.

SPOnG’s already brought you the latest news on the all-important ‘classic metal’ soundtrack, so what else is new with GH2? Okay lads, ready? One, two, three. GO!

The multiplayer aspect of the game will enable you to play two players co-operatively, each player choosing to play Rhythm, Lead or Bass guitar parts. Good news for bass players, usually the glummest and least-celebrated member of any band.

The multiplayer game will also include a ‘Pro Faceoff mode’ where each player can play the same notes, being able to change the speed of the practice mode depending on your fret skills.

GH2 will unsurprisingly feature a number of yet-to-be-announced in-game endorsements and real world venues. SPOnG wonders if the soon to be closed legendary CBGB’s in New York might be immortalised in the game. SPOnG's Micta certainly hopes so, as he is making his own pilgrimage to pay homage to the spiritual home of Punk Rock next month.

Character wise, GH2 will have a number of new characters, with details on a couple already seeping out - Dax DeVille, the Rockabilly formerly known as King Kendall after developer Harmonix' Jason Kendall, and a still unnamed Norwegian death rocker.

Finally, Harmonix has made mention of a new venue lighting system, which will somehow sync up to the music being played. We presume that the lighting will intesify as you hit the high notes whilst banging out your favourite metal riffs. This, more than anything, makes us want to play Guitar Hero II as soon as we possibly can.

Hopefully see you in Edinburgh next week then! More GH2 news to follow from there as we get it. Now, about those Guitar Hero for Xbox 360 rumours doing the rounds...
