Lego Star Wars II PC Demo Right Here

The ultimate triumvirate of childhood obsessions in a box.

Today in the SPOnG office, it's like Christmas Eve when we were 10 years-old.

Indeed, we are almost as excited as the mad ‘N64 kid’ we told you about earlier this week, who is now trying to capitalise on his Z-list internet-celeb status by flogging his ageing console to liars on eBay.

Why the excitement? Simple. SPOnG is about to take delivery of the latest build of Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, one of the few essential, nay must-have games of the year so far.

“Lego, Star Wars and video games. If only there was a Linux port this would be every geek's dream! And no Jar-Jar Binks!! W00t!” noted our Gavin, who is currently first in line to preview the game.

Close behind Gavin in SPOnG’s own Counting Down queue in Wakefield city centre is our IT monkey antipodean Chris, who had the following to say about the game: “My nerd gland has been eagerly awaiting the release of Lego Star Wars 2. Mainly because Mr Lucas has nothing to do with Lego Star Wars 2, it’s based on the only Star Wars movies that didn't feature a whiney Anakin Skywalker and, well, it’s got Lego in it.”

So whilst our Gavin and Chris fight like Tusken Raiders on Tatooine over who gets dibs on the code, SPOnG is happy to inform you that we have the first fully playable PC demo of the game for you to download, courtesy of the good people of LucasArts and Traveller's Tales. Right below these words. It’s a whopping 436.6Mb, but then, as "sick and dirty" Lou Reed so astutely put it way back, “First thing you learn is that you always gotta wait.”

Of course, craggy-faced old Lou was talking about hard drugs, but you get the gist. We don’t really need to say much more, other than drop everything and download this immediately.

The full game launches on September 12. SPOnG advises booking a day off work or throwing a sickie. We’ll be catching up with the development team at Traveller’s Tales in the coming weeks for a in-depth interview about the game, so watch out for that too.
