The first Fusion Frenzy game wasn't particularly well-received by the game reviewing community, though SPOnG suspects this is party the fault of reviewers more than a problem with the game. Although most games journalists are cut from a very precise mold and wear perfectly matching uniforms of faded Top Man jeans, a retro t-shirt and a cheap blazer rolling on some suede Adidas Gazelles and are so achingly 'lifestyle' it's utterly nauseating, they all somewhat surprisingly seemed to miss the point of Fusion Frenzy.
The Hudson game is one of the few you can actually play and enjoy when you're very, very drunk. You see, although any games journalist you might meet will take great care to inform you all about his work outside of filling pages for a huge corporation for peanuts. It'll be DJing (for free in a student bar in Bristol). And his brilliant social life outside free PR bribe evenings. It'll be going to after-parties after bootleg mash-up sets. After he's DJ finished DJing (for free with some students, to their house). They'll probably also talk about how great taking drugs is. Even though they're almost 30 and most people grew out of talking about that when they were 19 and realised the subject is only broached by the most awful humans ever.
This being the case, we're amazed that the zeitgeist didn't bend over our print-enslaved chimney-sweep brethren and stick the fact that Fusion Frenzy is very much a playable and enjoyable game for four people too drunk to play PES right up their alarmingly skinny arses.
Back on point, there's some good news for anyone with three friends and a swollen liver today, as Microsoft announces Fusion Frenzy 2 is coming to 360. It'll have 40 (probably rubbish when sober) minigames that you'll be able to play when you're four Stella's past the point PES becomes impossible.
The press release announcing the games reads, "Players are able to create their own unique tournaments that can be shared on Xbox Live while building achievement points," a somewhat vague comment we assume means real-time play won't be included.
We'll keep an eye on Fusion Frenzy 2. You never know, this time it might be good without the need to drink a lot of lager before playing.
