Virtua Fighter 5 – new gameplay video inside

Meet El Blaze and Eileen.

Alongside Super Monkey Ball (which you can read our recent preview on here), Virtua Fighter 5 (being released exclusively on PlayStation 3) is the other big Sega title we here at SPOnG are already starting to get worked up into a sweaty palmed anticipatory fever about, since catching an all-too brief glimpse of AM2's latest fighter at E3.

The game, which is being developed under the ever-watchful eye of Yu Suzuki, is really shaping up to take Sega's classic fighting game series kicking and screaming into the next generation, something which Dead or Alive 4 singularly failed to do on its Xbox 360 release earlier this year.

Take a look at this just released new video showing game play footage of all your favourite VF characters in eye-bleedingly splendid high-def glory (re-sized for easy download - Ed). You'll also get a brief glimpse of the two new characters in the game - El Blaze and Eileen. SPOnG's nan! In Virtua Fighter 5! Who'da thunk it?

El Blaze is a Mexican fighting champion who defeats opponents with his quick Lucha Libre fighting style. Eileen, originally from China, uses a Monkey Kung-Fu fighting style that she learned from her grandfather, a former Kung-Fu master.

Check the video here:

XviD MPEG4 (13.8MB)
Windows Media (14.2MB)

All in Virtua Fighter 5 will have fifteen fully customisable characters, where you will be able to buy clothes and attachable items from an in-game shop.

SPOnG's off to see the good people of Sega later this week, and at the top of our list of things we need to do is PLAY VIRTUA FIGHTER 5. Watch this space on Friday for (we hope) our first impressions on that and other forthcoming Sega titles.

And if there's anything you want answered Sega-wise, just let us know in the forum and we'll be sure to try to answer it for you.

You can read SPOnG's prior news on Virtua Fighter 5 here. and our dedicated Virtua Fighter 5 page here.

Right, back to arguing the toss about Dead or Alive versus Tekken versus Virtua Fighter. Aaah, the old chestnuts are always the best!
