Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence Dated for Europe
Sometimes we hate living in Europe. As gamers, this is mostly because we always tend to get the good stuff last. Plus it’s mostly cold and dead expensive and has an embarrassing history of Imperialism and (oh, fer Chrissakes, stop moaning, get on with it – Ed).

Ahem. Being the respectable English gents that we are (hahaha – Ed!) we are used to queuing patiently and not being overly loud or too demanding or shouty like our big fat American cousins, it really does peeve us sometimes that Japan, followed by the United States of War on Terror, always tend to get the best games way in advance of us.

So it is with mixed feelings that we pass on the news that Konami is set to release uber-MGS package, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, in Europe in October. Mixed feelings, as it's been out for ages across the pond and in the East, so why has it taken so bleeding long to get to the UK and Europe?

Well, there's no point in moaning anymore. Its going to be here in time for Christmas. Its Metal Gear Solid, and while its not totally new it is a must-have game for fans of the series and the final MGS outing (sort of) on PlayStation 2.

So, if you can’t afford the whoppingly expensive PlayStation 3 this Christmas (or even find one) then you can rest assured that you are going to have some quality PS2 titles still dribbling out for quite a while to tide you over.

So, what exactly is new about Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence? Let's let Konami tell us. The press release we just received reads as follows:

“Designed as the ultimate Metal Gear experience for the format, the three-disc set features an advanced version of the classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater; a second disc boasting a wealth of new game modes, including a full online version of the game, plus perfect recreations of the two MSX Metal Gear titles that started it all; and a three-and-a-half hour movie recut from the game’s cinematics on the third disc.”

Sounds like a top value MGS booty bag to us. Konami are really pushing the new 3D camera system which allows you to view the action from virtually any angle (which will also be used in Metal Gear Solid 4 on PlayStation 3).

They are also very excited to tell us about the fact that Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence contains a full online version of the game, “...answering the requests of countless Metal Gear fans. Using the PlayStation 2’s Network Adaptor, the second disc allows up to eight players to compete online for the first time ever in a Metal Gear game.”

The online game features ‘Sneaking Missions’, ‘Capture Missions’, ‘Rescue Missions’, ‘Death Matches’ and ‘Team Death Matches’, set within key locations from MGS3, plus a few new environments called ‘Lost Forest, Killhouse and Ghost Factory’.

If you have been chomping at the bit to get this on import, you can now stop chomping. Next time, please don’t make us wait so long, Konami!
