Global platform whore Electronic Arts has announced its intention to slide into bed with Nintendo offering a "full service" to the platform with a suite of its biggest-selling franchises being announced today. At its event in San Fransisco, EA pledged Harry Potter, Tiger Woods, SSX, The Godfather, Need for Speed and
the new Madden game which we told you about back in April. As with early DS games from EA, the firm promises to make full use of the Wii's innovative controller.
"Everyone in the studio is energized by the creative opportunity afforded by both the (Wii) hardware and controller ... creatively, the game play possibilities are staggering and endless," EA General Manager John Schappert said in a statement to assembled press.
However, EA's early DS games didn't really make good on any promises made. The use of the stylus, hastily bolted onto existing franchises, served as gimmick at best, annoyance at worst as the actual underpinning gameplay mechanic always remained unchanged.
Whilst Madden on Wii does sound surprisingly interesting, few details have been issued so far on the other titles' control methods. It's all too easy to be cynical about EA, and this line-up will do little to assure anyone the world's biggest third-party is offering potential Wii owners anything other than the opportunity to line EA's pockets for various lengths of aging rope...
