200,000 DS Lites Already Shifted in Europe
Nintendo has just happily announced that it has already shifted over 200,000 DS Lites in Europe after the must-have gizmo’s first ten days on the shelves, taking the total number of DS owners in Europe to over five million.

With a doubtlessly casual Gallic shrug, Nintendo’s European Marketing Director, the affable Laurent Fisher, said: “Nintendo DS has introduced thousands of new people to gaming and will continue to expand the gaming population due to its ability to appeal to both gamers and non-gamers. During Nintendo DS Lite launch weekend, retailers across Europe said that they had never seen such a vast array of different people buying the product, everyone from business men to young women to grandfathers!”

Imagine! Your grandad, hanging out in Gamestation with all the youngsters, testing his brain age against theirs and whupping them at Mario Kart on WiFi. Oh, Nintendo, ‘tis a happy and rosy future you have planned for us indeed.

As we revealed in this week's charts news, both new updates of much-loved old Nintendo classics and new Touch! Generations titles are both selling healthily, with New Super Mario Bros. at number two and Brain Training at number five.

Nintendo’s Touch! Generations campaign can already be said to be an unqualified success across Europe. Just look at the Europe-wide sales figures released today: Nintendogs, over 3 million units sold; Animal Crossing: Wild World, over 600,000 sold and 14 consecutive weeks in the top ten All formats software chart in the UK since it launched at the end of March.

There are also over 250,000 people across Europe now exercising their brains with Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old is Your Brain? Plus, Nintendo’s just released the follow up to that title, Big Brain Academy - you can read the SPOnG review here.

A DS Lite will set you back a mere £100 or so. Or you might want to try your luck and enter SPOnG’s massive DS Lite summer gaming giveaway right here. Quick, there’s only a couple of weeks left before we choose the three lucky winners out of our big top hat!
