New Sylpheed for Xbox 360. Screens Spawn Dreams

Project Sylph. It lives!

Given the nature of SPOnG as a museum of all games ever, it's our duty to get excited about remakes of the classics that scarred our brains deeply enough to land us with jobs running a videogame site when we became grown men. And a lady.

RPG mega-firm Square Enix is well aware of the demand for the IP that shaped the tastes of gamers across the globe, and has released the first images of Project Sylph, the Xbox 360-exclusive Game Arts-developed update of the classic blaster Silpheed to our friends at Impress Game Watch.

As you'll have noted, the game has undergone a letter change in its title, something that's not really too confusing: the pronunciation's the same after all, and we are assured that the basic strategy of shooting stuff remains in this first-person re-work.

Of course, avid readers will remember the announcement of Project Sylph (which we believe is a casual title at time of going to press) coming in fresh from the Xbox Japan conference earlier this year. Enjoy the screens for now and expect updates in the coming weeks.

Looks good but we'll have to wait and see. The last one on PS2 wasn't much to write home about, despite having the PS2s graphics at its disposal.

Nice to see Game Arts doing something other than an rpg mind.
