Atari and Namco Bandai have today announced a ‘stunning new fighter’ based on a revered Japanese anime series. Saint Seiya: The Hades will be released for PS2 in Europe later this year.
The title is the follow up to the previous game,
Saint Seiya: The Sanctuary, which was released in 2005.
Saint Seiya: The Hades is based on a story from the most widely acclaimed chapter of the Manga saga and, as well as featuring cut scenes from the popular anime, also features, we are informed by Atari’s press release, “an overdose of innovative features and stunning enhancements designed to bring players closer than ever to the universe of mind-blowing 3D Cosmo battles.” Check out the first screens of the game right here.
The story goes like this: “the Specters, thanks to the awakening of Hades, begin to claim back their powers after being restrained for 243 years by Athena's might. It is your destiny to do battle with the supreme commander of Hell and his armies to overcome the impending devastation.”
All in a day’s work, you might think. Gameplay-wise, we are promised an enhanced Cosmo system, plenty of new special attacks and ”technically dazzling rapid-fire battles” with a “greater breadth of range attacks, counter-attacks and blistering combos ... to give the player fiercely dynamic battles where one right or wrong move can have catastrophic effects.”
The game is to be published by Namco Bandai and distributed in Europe by good old Atari in the autumn. Anime fans will want to watch this space for further news on the game as soon as we have it.
