Although SPOnG isn't the greatest fan of GameTap, the online games download service, we cannot help but be impressed by what the site has put together for the 15th birthday of Sega mascot Sonic the Hedgehog, with some rare Sega gems being made available for download on an official basis for the first time.
Sega has made available Sonic the Hedgehog versions one, two and three, and included Knuckles the Echidna as a playable character throughout - it's Sega obsessive gold. As well as the Sonic reworks, GameTap will offer Sonic Creator Yuji Naka's first ever game Girl's Garden for download, the first time the game has seen any kind of release outside of Japan.
Girl's Garden was released only for Sega's SG-1000 console way back in 1994, screenshots of the game are to the right of these words. GameTap is offering a two week free trial for those interested.
Click here should you feel the need to indulge yourself in this shower of Sega retro gold.
