Can a free demo solve the problem of suicidial depression?

SPOnG has a deep, enduring love for Micro Machines. We're not sure why it is. Perhaps, above all else, it's because of its hugely fun cartoon-like silliness.

Without hugely fun cartoon-like silliness, the world really would be a drab place. In fact, it would probably all be like 1970s Siberia. Or, even worse, like an endless Milton Keynes.

But because of games such as Micro Machines, the world, now and then, on those special occasions where you happen to be chilling out late at night with a few good friends having a few drinks (or, if you are Craig Charles, hundreds of hits on your crack pipe), is a wonderful, cartoon-like, silly place.

If you live in Milton Keynes or Siberia, then SPOnG apologises for the above comments, unfairly playing upon the stereotypical images of your home town/ wasteland. However, if you are unfortunate enough to live in a boring town, or indeed if you are currently sitting staring at a PC screen in a boring dead-end job, contemplating ending it all now due to the utter mundanity of everything in the universe, then we have one thing to say to you.

DON'T end it all now. Download this free demo of Micro Machines and inject some joy back into your life. Go on. Go and get it right now from Codie's website at Codemasters.com

The demo allows up to four players to try out three of the game's tracks - around the kitchen, on the rooftops and inside the chicken coop. Or, if you are a friendless loser, you can still play single-player practice or Quick Battle races against AI opponents. Details on each are as follows:

The Kitchen Capers track has players belting around the kitchen counters, racing over scorching stovetops and leaping from the countertops to an ironing board. Players should beware the soapy lake that is the kitchen sink and use the floating sponge as an improvised raft to avoid a watery grave.

Then it's outside to the chicken coop in the Pecking Peril race, which holds the horrors of seemingly giant chickens that try to peck the wheels off the tiny racers. Get past them and there are still their boulder-like eggs to dodge as they come tumbling like a landslide.

Finally, roar around the roof in Rooftop Rumble, racing down drainpipes and catching the updraught from an air vent. Collect weapon power-ups and let loose a fury with machine guns, missiles, electric-shockers and more!

SPOnG will be contacting our local Samaritans to let them know about this free, quick and easy way to steer people away from the depths of their suicidal depression.

Nobody wants to talk to some busybody about their deepest darkest secrets which make them hate themselves and the world and the people around them.

Everybody loves Micro Machines though. And with this free demo, surely we have a solution to the enduring problem of increasing worldwide levels of depression in the so-called developed, capitalist world.

Oh forget it. Play it or just stick your head in the oven. SPOnG doesn't really care.
