Half a million racked up Stateside since launch, double that in Japan.

American people like all kinds of things that aren't in some way related to oil and hamburgers, you know. In addition to war, money and over-enthusiasm, they also really like Nintendo's Super Mario franchise, something you can tell when looking at the US sales figures for the game.

Indeed, New Super Mario Bros, released for DS some 35 days ago, has sold the red and yellow mushroom-sized amount of 500,000, meaning about one in every six hundred American person has a copy lodged away somewhere - not bad going at all.

In Japan the figures are even better, with our "no longer in the World Cup" buddies snapping up a million NSMB games inside two weeks. This means that one in every 130 Japanese person has a copy of the game hidden, no doubt, in a very expensive vintage Gucci attache case.

We'll stop casting about stereotypes for now and leave you safe in the knowledge that you'll be able to buy it in the Europe a week from today.
