GTA IV to use R* Table Tennis Powerhouse?

Rumoured to use Rockstar’s RAGE Engine

Posted by Staff
It seems, according to the quagmire of rumour-mongering that is the Internet videogames community, that Rockstar is planning on using its proprietary RAGE Engine in Grand Theft Auto IV. RAGE, which stands for Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, was used in their recent Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis.

The rumour apparently started in an interview with Rockstar reps on MTV. However, a number of calls and a solid morning of combing the Internet with a fine tooth comb seems to have turned nothing up on this front. Perhaps it was just made up by a bored geek on a forum. We'll soon find out.

SPOnG put in a couple of calls to various Rockstar reps to get to the bottom of this one, and we await their response with interest.

If you've played Table Tennis then you will know that RAGE offers perhaps the most realistic and fluid physics ever seen in a videogame - each player's clothing responds convincingly to every move. It will be interesting, should this rumour prove to be true, to see how Rockstar plan on making use of it in the next instalment of the GTA series.

Of course there are only two characters on screen at any one time in Table Tennis, which is a very different game to GTA. We'll bring you more news as we squeeze it out of the mouth's of the notoriously taciturn PR machine that is Rockstar Games.

Meanwhile, we're off to get some turps to wash off this bloody stupid temporary GTA IV tatoo we got done to show off to our friends at E3. It's taking some shifting, we tell you.

I'd like to suggest the umpire and the audience as also being on screen as well (depending on your view and how hard you're smacking that ball around), not that you'd really notice them anyway. But yeah, there aren't really any big explosions or flying cars.
