Europe-bound Container of DS Lites Nicked

Hong Kong black marketers rub hands with glee

It seems that $2.32 million worth of black Nintendo DS Lite systems have been stolen in Hong Kong, as they were being shipped from the manufacturing plants in China across to Europe for the planned 23rd June launch next week.

The container load went missing earlier this week, with Hong Kong police offering HKD$1 million ($128, 831) to anyone that might help them shop the filthy thieving bastards responsible. If you do happen to know anything about it, our in-depth (cinema) knowledge of how the Hong Kong underworld operates suggests keeping your trap shut should ensure you don’t lose your hands or feet or genitals.

The main concern following the theft is how it will affect the availability of DS Lites across the UK and Europe at the end of next week.

For anyone in Europe that cannot wait a little over a week to get hold of a legitimate DS Lite and has no moral conscience, SPOnG would suggest looking on eBay for those too good to be true "buy it now" prices. Alternatively, should you happen to be in Hong Kong, checking out some of the dodgier consumer tech retailers and markets.

A container load going missing probably is enough to make a difference to supply I reckon. Containers are big things, if they were stacked say fifty deep, fifty high and fifty wide that's 125,000 of the things. I don't know the size of the actual packages but it's surely more than 50,000 we're talking about.

I'll have to get my deer stalker and magnifying glass for this one. Those DS will probably make their way back into China somehow and perhaps some to Taiwan. For those containers are bloody large things, but that's not what the porky police should be looking for anymore. That stock has dispersed already into the night.

They'll be easy to shift too since they are so small. Keep an eye out as they may be coming to a market stall near you. Look for the chap selling them out of his jeans pockets.

It's unfortunate... I just picked up a Lite today. Sweet machine, played it for an hour and tried going back to the other DS... no way. It doesn't look that much smaller, but it seems to be alltogether. The other DS looks confused, whether to keep its legs closed, or to open then.

Hope it won't effect you guys much...

They may not be too easy to shift outside of the EU since the black colour version is supposed to be an European exclusive for now.
