Nintendo DS Lite: Unqualified US Success
Unsurprisingly, American gamers have taken to the hottest must-have gaming gadget of the year like we always knew they would.

DS Lites have been flying off the shelves, and Nintendo claims to have sold more than 136,500 units in the first two days, which amazingly matches the sales figures for the original DS (you remember, that big old clunky silverish thing that’s now been re-classified as retro and relegated to the bits and bobs drawer in the kitchen).

Sales of New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age have also shot through the roof. Check the factoids and figures SPOnG’s just received from Nintendo:

* After going on sale on May 15th, New Super Mario Bros sold at a non-stop rate of roughly one every four seconds nationwide during the reporting period.

* New Super Mario Bros emerged as the Number One game of the month, even though it was in stores for just 13 days of the four-week reporting period.

* DS Lite is outpacing 2003's launch sales of Nintendo's juggernaut Game Boy Advance SP by more than 12 percent.

The DS Lite arrives in Europe on June 23rd. Go faster, oh passage of time, go faster!
