Xbox 360 - New Backwards Compatibility Update
Doom 3, Fatal Frame, Silent Hill 4 and more
Ignoring Peter Moore’s slip earlier this month, when he casually dropped a PR stinkbomb into an interview, saying that "nobody is concerned anymore about backward compatibility," it seems that Microsoft does care about it.
Well, it cares enough to have announced a long list of additional Xbox games that will now run on its next-gen console.
You can get the latest backwards compatibility update from the magic that is Xbox Live, or via Xbox.com on the Internet. There are now over 200 Xbox games that can be played on the 360, and Xbox fanboys will be particularly pleased to see Doom 3, Fatal Frame and Silent Hill 4 added to this list.
The 21 games that Microsoft have just added in are:
1. 4x4 EVO 2
2. Amped 2
3. Bad Boys 2
4. Big Mutha Truckers
5. DOOM 3
6. Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
7. Fatal Frame
8. FlatOut
9. Grabbed by the Ghoulies
10. Intellivision Lives
11. LEGO Star Wars
12. Minority Report
13. MLB SlugFest 20-04
14. The Punisher
15. RalliSport Challenge
16. Silent Hill 4: The Room
17. Spawn Armageddon
18. Spider-Man
19. Star Wars Battlefront
20. State of Emergency
21. Zapper

How about: Conker, DOA Ultimate, JET SET RADIO FUTURE (not _really_ capitalised for any reason... ;P), Outrun 2, Phantasy Star Ep I & II, Chronicles of Riddick, or any of the other sterling titles instead of State of Emergency or Zapper (what the hell is Zapper?).
This update, save for Doom 3 (and Dreamfall), sucks monkey b******s. I mean, nobody should be owning Big Mutha Truckers. If you do own it, you shouldn't be allowed to play games, let alone play it on your 360. XP
It's going to be another six months before the next update now. And even then it's going to be Antz or something. Suck. :P

I'd add Lego Star Wars as a 3rd worthy title on this update (I still need to pick up Dreamfall.)
I think the problem is that the crappy games which never really taxed the Xbox system are, unfortunately, the easiest to emulate.

Quite right. When the update the emulation software it is not on a per game update. They dont necissarily go in and work on each title specifically to make them work. They essentially work on a updating the emulator to work with certain calls and procedures didnt work with the previous version of the emulator. I am fairly certain that by working on the emulator to get doom3 to run that it automatically opened up the door for other games that may not have worked before to work properly now. I mean doom3 was a pretty demanding game.
It just so happened the other games in the list now happen to work, which is why there are crappy titles in the list. Its great to see it expanded, but its frustrating to see some of the best games not ported yet.
I am willing to be that the next update will specifically address a couple of the listed games here, if for no other reason than getting those demanding games will get many other less demanding games to work as well.
By the way there were not many cell shaded titles for the xbox, so I would not expect them to spend much time working on properly emulating cell shaded titles such as JET SET RADIO FUTURE, unless there is enough demand for it.
