Following on from
the earlier news about the intriguing new Touch! Generations DS titles announced this week, Nintendo of Japan also announced to press and retailers their rather healthy latest sales figures, plus a few other DS gems, which we’ve got some information on right here.
To kick proceedings off, with regards to sales, they wheeled out some pretty impressive numbers. New Super Mario Bros. sold an astounding 900,000 units in its first four days on sale, whilst Tetris DS sold 800,000 in it’s first month on sale.
Hardware wise, Nintendo shifted 950,000 lovely little DS Lites in April alone, taking the total number of DS units in Japan to just over 8.4 million. And last, but by no means least, sales of Animal Crossing have now passed the three million mark. Proof positive, not that it was needed, that Japan is officially Nintendo-mental.
In terms of new DS titles, there were the new Touch! Generations cooking and common sense training titles we’ve already mentioned in earlier news. There were also a number of ‘proper’ games including a new Tamagotchi titles from Bandai Namco, Square Enix developed Mario Basketball 3 on 3 (featuring characters from Final Fantasy!), a puzzle game called Trion Cube from Namco and an intriguing title called ‘Project Hacker’ by Red Entertainment of Sakura Taisen fame, produced by Nintendo.
Project Hacker is described as an adventure game with a heavy Internet/hacking theme – so there are many hacking puzzles where you have to gather info off the Internet, hack passwords, fix programs and so on. SPOnG will be looking to find out more about this and all the other titles mentioned above in the coming days. Watch this space.
