Koei Resurrects Gitaroo Man on PSP

Rhythm Action classic hits handheld.

Posted by Staff
Koei has just announced that it is to bring back Gitaroo Man this autumn. Gitaroo Man Lives! sees one of the PS2’s most popular and critically-lauded original rhythm action games ported to the PSP. The power chord maestro is back!

Where has he been all this time? The press release from Koei says it all: “Rehab? Struggling to get over the break up of Busted? Penning songs from a takeaway-strewn Vegas hotel room? Fighting off the Gravillian family on another planet? None of that matters any more, now that the axe man is back and ready to rock.”

Details on the gameplay are sparse at this point, but we are told that Gitaroo Man Lives! makes clever use of the PSP’s analogue controls and includes brand new wi-fi games where two tunesmiths can either join forces or pit their talents against each other to see who is the ultimate string legend. It sounds a bit like they've taken some of the good ideas from Guitar Hero 2 to us, what with the dueting feature and all, which isn’t altogether a bad thing.

SPOnG will keep you updated with more Guitar Man Lives! news as and when we extract it from Koei, SPOnG’s new favourite non-Nintendo handheld game publisher of choice.

No no no no no. Please don't accuse my beloved Gitaroo Man and favourite game of all time of ripping off Guitar Hero.

The two-player duets etc, were all present in the original PS2 game!

As for the PSP version - which was announced two weeks ago at E3 by the way - is a remake of the PS2 game with a couple of new game modes, songs and wireless functionality.

I know my Gitaroo Man s**t, people. Roxer
