DS Lite Arrives in Europe in June
Well, we hate to say it, but we told you so. As reported last week, the rumours were true. Nintendo has just confirmed with MCV this morning that the beautiful iPod-a-like white DS Lite and the rather more conservative city-boy black DS Lite will be available in Europe from June 23, retailing at £99.99 in the UK.

This writer’s better half will be more than happy with this news, as it means she will immediately inherit our old grey DS on June 23. We will not miss it. She will also be doubly pleased, as Nintendo also releases a new version of its girl-pleasing Nintendogs. Dalmatian & Friends will be available a week before the DS Lite on June 16.

The DS Lite will be followed on June 30 by must-have title New Super Mario Bros, and the much-heralded game for old gimmers - Professor Kawashima's How Old is Your Brain? - will be available June 9. SPOnG spies a bundle of handheld gaming pleasure on the horizon.

Now there is only one decision left for us to make. Trendy Apple-inspired white, or ninja-gamer black? It’s a hard life.

Isn't that more expensive than the US/JP?

Bad Nintendo.

I'd say you must be new here, but you've been around long enough to know how often we get shafted on price in the UK.

At least with the DS Lite, we get roughly the same price as in Europe - 149 Euro = £102.

Theree pounds off! Woot, We rule, etc.

Ahem!

Almost certainly fruitless, but I sent this earlier; I'll keep my fingers crossed that I might get a reply back...

Hi,

I'm trying to find out the justification for the pricing of the DS Lite in Europe, if that's at all possible. It is immediately obvious that something is wrong, seeing as how the US price is US$129.99 which is the same as the standard Nintendo DS model, so you are already trying to charge more above the standard pricing. Then there is the small matter of price difference, too; even accounting for UK VAT, there is a discrepancy of over GB£19 at current exchange rates against the US price. Admittedly, the US$/GB£ exchange rate has worsened recently, but even if it had been nearer to the US$1.75 ~ GB£1.00 rate that it has been for the last year, or so, that would still be a GB£12 price difference.

Would you care to explain why you are ripping off your customers in Europe? I'm sure myself, and many others, would be interested to know why.

Yours

Well it's not the first time you guys have been shafted, and it's certainly not the last. I'm going to be paying $150 Canadian for a DS Lite, 100 pounds equals out to somewhere just over $200 Canadian. So yeah, it is a bit more, but the PS3 will be an even worse deal.

PS3 - $699 Canadian
PS3 - 425 pounds = about $900 Canadian.

Shafted for over 200 bucks.

Amazingly the CAD is doing so well, I'll probably be paying less for a DS than my American counterparts. TGINE - Thank God I'm Not European.

I'll still be buying. I just hope Nintendo add an extra stylus in the box this time. Losing them can really hamper your gaming.

Finding official Nintendo DS stylus also seems hard.
