One aspect of the next gen battle of words between Sony and Microsoft that has yet to really be fleshed out, is that of external fan noise from both machines.
T3 online are reporting today that Sony's PS3 is shaping up to be the quietest of the next-gen consoles, claiming that you'll "have to strain your ears really hard to hear the PS3," which, as many of you will be able to testify, cannot be said for Microsoft's Xbox 360.
Sony is claiming that the PS3 emits less noise than a slimline PS2, which, if true, is something for Microsoft to get more than a little concerned about.
SPOnG suspects that this is going to be something we hear Sony shouting much more about over the coming months, and, it has to be said, although we don't mind the Xbox 360's barely audible whirring whilst playing games, it does tend to grate just a little whilst watching anything other than LOUD action movies or playing anything other than LOUD rock and roll.
We suspect that Sony are quietly confident in the capabilities of the PS3 as a movie and music player, and quite probably hope that the consumer and lifestyle PR campaign which is already well under way now for the planned November launch, will manage to communicate this fact to consumers - both the hardcore gamer and the casual gaming, movie-watcher alike.
