One of the big new PS3 titles that many were eagerly discussing directly after Sony's pre-E3 press conference yesterday was Resistance, developed by the guys at Insomniac Games (the Ratchet and Clank people).
Resistance is about as far away from Ratchet as you could get though, as you can see from the first batch of screens just issued. The game is described as a "first-person action game ... set in a frightening, alternate 20th century reality," and a blend of "epic military action and unnerving horror."
Resistance's storyline sounds like standard Sci Fi fare - the U.S. and Britain band together in a last-ditch effort to save Europe and Asia from a horrific scourge known as the Chimera that has overrun Russia and all of Europe.
Playing as U.S. Army Ranger, Sgt. Nathan Hale, the future of humanity is in your hands. The game boasts single-player and co-op modes, plus "one of the most complete multiplayer" online campaigns ever (from 2 to 32 players) with "highly customizable online gameplay".
It's certainly a new direction for Insomniac, and one of the first new IP's announced for PS3 which seemed to create a real, no-nonsense buzz yesterday, so it's one which SPOnG will be keeping a close eye on. Stay tuned. Loads more new PS3 news and screens to follow.
