Sid Meier’s Pirates! Go Live! on Xbox!

Buccaneering strategy heading to console.

After the disappointments that were Galleon and Pirates Of The Caribbean, the world of consoles is still devoid of any suitably entertaining pirate-flavoured game. Yet in the hearts of many gamers, pirates belong next to cowboys, ninjas, secret agents and zombies as professionals worthy of the utmost respect. Thus it is with great pleasure that we can confirm that Atari is promising an Xbox version of the Firaxis pirate ‘sim’, Sid Meier’s Pirates!

The PC version is due to arrive in November and could prove thoroughly enjoyable for those with a penchant for strategic ponderings and/or beardy thieves in boats. There aren’t many games of this type for Xbox, so when it comes to port (oof!) it should prove to be the genre leader. Atari has also confirmed an additional two player versus mode and Xbox Live! compatible features for the console version, although these have yet to be fully detailed.

Sid Meier’s Pirates! should be shipping to Xbox by spring 2005, by which time the quality (or lack of) of the PC version should be plain for all to see.

Atari need all the bucks they can get back after the Driv3r fiasco, but is a port of a PC title really what's needed?

Looks interesting but I can't judge til it's out. I'll keep an eye on it if it's a Firaxis game.
