It’s another giant, weird Capcom peripheral!

This time, shaped like a sword. Um, yes...

Capcom is the company that made Steel Battalion for Xbox. You remember that, right? You needed a gigantic plastic tank dashboard to play it. It was kind of cool, in a kind of ‘I-hope-no-one-sees-me-doing-this’ kind of way.

Anyway, Capcom has announced a fresh peripheral deal, this time with fighting stick-famed Hori, for a katana-shaped PlayStation 2 controller. Really, that’s what has actually happened. Look, here’s a picture and everything.

It’s to mark the release of Onimusha 3, which is fair enough, we suppose. It’s a metre in length, has gold bits on it, and lets players slash away in front of their TV sets via the magic of a pressure pad and a ball bearing hidden away in the shaft. It also, as you can see, has a completely unusable PlayStation 2 controller built into the hilt.

However, the best bit is that it will cost at least £100.

Capcom, we love you indeed!

Didn't the Dreamcast fishing controller double as a sword when used with certain fighting titles?

I can't see how on earth a ball bearing in a stick going to act as a decent motion sensor. You'd really have to make sure you "kept your end up". Heh. There must be gyros or something going on in there, like this wonderful little Gyration mouse I have here.

Either way, sad thing is, there'll be plenty of nutcases willing to waste there money on this daft controller.

I didn't want to hijack an existing thread but I couldn't find any sort of private message facility in this forum. I just wanted to tell you, config, that I'm flattered that my little quote has made it into sig fodder on a prominent website. Thanks mate :o)
