Yakuza 4 Producer: 'Quality Over Quantity' Compared to GTA
Yakuza 4 producer Masayoshi Kikuchi has revealed to SPOnG that his team focused on "quality rather than quantity" instead of following Grand Theft Auto's fully open-world game mechanics.

The latest in Sega's Japanese gangster series lets players control four different characters through various backstories, but keeps the action solely based in fictional red light district, Kamurocho. Because of this, Kikuchi explained that they added several levels of exploration in the familiar city environment, including underground parking lots and skyscraper rooftops.

When asked if this was a way of creating a more open-world affair like the Grand Theft Auto series that Yakuza is (arguably mistakenly) compared with, Kikuchi said, "I think you can put it that way. But the main difference here is that we are focusing on quality rather than quantity. So instead of a vast area, we focused more on populating that area with more activities."

Kikuchi also told SPOnG that there are no plans to port the Yakuza series to other platforms, much to the dismay of many Xbox 360 owners around the world. The common explanation of DVD data size was used as the reason, with the producer adding that "if we wanted to take this game and port it to the Xbox 360, it would probably struggle with all the information."

Keep an eye on SPOnG for our Yakuza 4 preview later today.
