God of War PSP doesn't fare so well...

The Charts: GT5 Prologue Roars to Life
The unavailability of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue to download over the PlayStation Network last Thursday might have hacked off a lot of PS3 owners. It seems to have done the game a favour in the Charts, however. Punters have been rushing out to buy the disc version, with GT5 Prologue entering the All Formats Top 40 at Number 1.

Chart-Track tells us that GT5 Prologue is now "the fastest-selling PS3 title within a week". The previous holder of that PS3 accolade was Resistance all the way back in the PS3's launch week.

Ubisoft is relegated to Number 2 after kicking off Rainbow Six Vegas 2's Chart run at Number 1 last week. SEGA's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games suffers a similar fate, dropping one spot to Number 3.

Konami does a spot of climbing, however, with Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 seeing a 103% rise in sales and making its way from Number 7 to Number 4. Blame it on the Wii version, with its motion sensitive special features, which debuted last week.

Activision drops a chord with Guitar Hero III, as it slides one place down the fret to Number 5. SEGA's right behind it with SEGA Superstars Tennis, which jumps four places to Number 6.

A new entry into the Charts for SEGA is Viking: Battle for Asgard for the 360 and PS3. It hits the Top 10 at Number 8. Its Wii release of House of the Dead 2 & 3: Return doesn't fare quite so well, debuting at Number 21.

Other new entries this week include EA's Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath, which hits the Chart at Number 16; and Sony's God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP (reviewed here), which performs disappointingly with a first appearance at Number 29.

Next week, watch out for SEGA's Condemned 2 and D3's darkSector.

You can see the Top 10 in full below (last week's position is bracketed) and see the Top 40 in full here.

(NE) 1 Gran Turismo 5: Prologue - SCEE
(1) 2 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 - Ubisoft

(11) 4 Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Konami
(4) 5 Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock - Activision
(10) 6 Sega Superstars Tennis - SEGA
(3) 7 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Activision
(NE) 8 Viking: Battle For Asgard - SEGA

Maybe it was the fact that you got more for less at Tesco and Walmart than you did on line that actually spurred its performance at physical sale.

These companies who think people will pay the same for download as they will for physical media are, I think, fooling themselves. The music industry thinks selling download albums for £7.99 is a price advantage... because they are comparing that with £12.99 in HMV. But as long as Play and CDWOW are pumping discs out for £8.99 including postage, it doesn't seem that great a deal.

Nice to see a demo hits the number 1 spot, the PS3 is seriously lacking games and decent titles, perhaps its an idea to release demos instead since GT5 is still a year a way...

Considering that GT5P outsold everything else last week, was only available for two days and that the PS3 has a much lower installed base than either the 360 or the Wii; it looks like Microsoft and Nintendo may have to change their tactics too.

You can't pin this one on the lack of PS3 games when "a demo" outsold everything else on every other platform. Face it; people like GT.

i believe that sony did not put it on ps store so that people went out and got the disc as it would and has put the game in the top of the charts i went out to game and got the disc because i could not get the download but it has helped as this means that when wipeout hd comes out i don't have to load up more money to my account

Has anyone played it?

What do they think? How is the online and hows the first corner online... from what I know of people playing online, 16 cars and no damage the first corner should be complete chaos!

Agree with DoctorDee, people trying to charge the same amount for downloadable stuff as they do physical media are just taking the piss. I also don't understand what they have to region lock stuff, look how long its taken to get the Video Marketplace over here on the Xbox and its totally lacking in content

Online is pretty good if you've got a decent connection, no lag whatsoever. However since the kids are still on easter break you often get races where they think its mario kart, getting rammed left right and centre. Shame really.

Considering GT5 aka Demo is being sold for like £20 or less in most places anyone with a PS3 is most certainly going to pick it up aren't they?

Microsoft and Nintendo have nothing ot worry about, and certainaly not Microsoft since their installed userbase and tons of games cannot be beaten by the likes of Sony this gen.

This gen its all about Microsoft and Nintendo both were at the bottom last gen with Sony leading the pack, how the tables have turned.
