Sega’s Crackdown on Virtual Cheats
Sega of Japan has announced that it will pull the plug on the Phantasy Star Online servers if anyone is found cheating.

The decision came from Sonic Team, the developers behind the smash hit online RPG.

The problem stems from the announcement that “Game Enhances” like Action Replay will soon be capable of endowing players with unlimited money, weapons and magic, all at no real effort.

Sega made no comment on the unpolicable problem of people selling Phantasy Star cash and weaponry on Internet auction sites.

“We see no point in continuing to support the servers when players will have a more balanced experience offline. We are fully committed to Phantasy Star and believe it is the best RPG to date. If the play environment becomes unbalanced by cheats, there is no point in continuing.” was the word from a Sonic Team spokesman today.
