Radical! It's true that there are some of us in the office who have never stepped on a skateboard in our lives, but - real skaters or not - almost all of us agree that each new iteration in Activision’s Tony Hawk series is a no-brainer, must-get title. As soon as 2006's skies turned grey and the leaves started to fall, we had only one thing guaranteed to keep the autumnal blues at bay – the imminent arrival of Project 8.

For those who might have been tiring of the skateboarding hero’s series (with many muttering last time around that it was all getting a bit samey) THP8, the game’s first proper next-gen outing, is a huge leap forward in terms of both technology and gameplay.See SPOnG’s recent detailed preview to learn why.

Check out Bam Margera talking about what makes the game tick for him in this latest video SPOnG just received from Activision:

MPEG4 XviD (4.1M)
Quicktime (3.6M)
Windows Media (3.6M)

The game has been totally re-engineered from the ground up and boasts ultra-realistic graphics, enhanced physics and extremely responsive controls, and replicates the real feeling of skateboarding better than ever before.

For the full details check out SPOnG’s Tony Hawk’s Project 8 page. Dude.

Comon spong. I thought we were all getting tired of all this crappy pr rhetoric after e3. Can we please just post gaming news without the accompanying straight from the company pr public line. The last paragraph in this story made the whole story sound like a paid advertisement. Not to mention that the accompanying video feels completely like a tv add.

With all due respect. Take a flying. I tell it how I see it. I've been in this industry for over 16 years, I once gave a game 3% in the best selling magazine available at the time.

THP8 is one of the best video games I have ever played. I am, I admit, getting a little jaded, I've pretty much seen it all... THP8 is the game I am most looking forward to this year, and I'm even considering buy a 360 because I cannot wait to March (if we're lucky) to play it on PS3 - which I far prefer the controller config of for TH games.

Plus... the video is not "accompanying" the preview that you quoted, it's in a totally separate piece of editorial, and the video IS an advert, created by Activision to pimp the game.

There is no PR line in there, THP8 feels different, and better, than previous TH games. The game engine IS completely re-written, and it shows... what do you want me to say?

That was a rhetorical question btw, I'll say what I want, that's why I started this site ;-)

With regards to the trailer, especially the first one that was released. I thought it was amazing but i see where you are coming from in a way. However, the first trailer was actually expaining how the new system worked and how you do tricks. I'm guessing this is probably the same video that you will get in the game to explain things to you then.

Regardless, i think people are simply trying to show you that this is not the same Tony Hawks game we've played before, if anything its been given a makeover with new and better...well...everything.

high praise and well said indeed...might have to revisit the genre...besides SSX (which has quite a bit more of the racing to it) the last game of this type I played seriously was Dave Mirra...
