Wii out in September? Not happening Says Nintendo.

Information on 'Best Wii Party Game Ever' inside.

SPOnG managed to grab some much-appreciated hands-on time with Wii Sports and WarioWare: Smooth Moves last night, at a very swish club in London’s fashionable Covent Garden.

Wii’ll bring you our full previews and thoughts on both titles early next week. Suffice to say expectations were high and expectations were more than met.

Simply put, Wii is going to bring us the best party games that human beings have not yet played, or previously even been able to imagine, the first of these being WarioWare: Smooth Moves.

SPOnG could have stayed in the swanky Covent Garden bar playing WarioWare: Smooth Moves all night, had it not been for the annoying queue of lifestyle and national press journos waiting impatiently behind us for a go. While we are glad to see Nintendo's well-oiled PR machine in full effect (and we will no doubt be seeing the results in our wonderful tabloid press and achingly hip lifestyle magazines in the near future) we can't help but feel that it would be nice if they could just organise events for online specialist websites based in West Yorkshire.

That way, we could play all the games ourselves for as long as we liked, scoff all their amazing posh food and ogle all the fit model-quality ladies all night, with no distraction from any other scratty little so-called 'lifestyle' journos. Ah well, we can but dream. And of course, we won't have to wait too long now until we can play Wii with all our proper friends and family at home.

The idea of playing WarioWare: Smooth Moves with our younger nieces and nephews and our gran on Christmas day fills us with nothing but pure joy. It's a game that anyone can and will want to pick up and play. And play and play and play.

While we were there, we casually mentioned to Nintendo’s UK PR reps in attendance the recent rumours about a possible September launch, which stemmed from a CNN report, as SPOnG told you about earlier this week.

“Absolute, total nonsense. That is not going to happen,” they replied, with a look of bemusement on their faces.

Ah well, looks like we’ll have to wait until closer to Christmas to get our hands on the finished kit. In the meantime, SPOnG guarantees to bring you full coverage of all Wii launch titles in the coming months.

In three month’s time, when the sun’s gone back behind the clouds and the likes of Woolworth's have somehow managed to wind back the start of the consumer-frenzy race towards Jesus’s birthday to early October, you will literally be dying for a Wii (No! Enough now. – Ed).
