12th February 2002INTERNET GAMES DATABASE OFFERS NEW LOOK(S) AND FUNCTIONALITY
SPOnG.com (http://spong.com) the Internet computer games database, re-launched this week with a new design and structure. The aim of the new look and feel is not just to make the site more attractive, but also to add functionality for clients, and bring greater ease of use to the sites visitors.
SPOnG CEO, Marcus Dyson, said, "Previously SPOnG's design was geared around the ease for us to get data into the database. Very little thought had been given to how users could browse and view that information. This time around, we've made it a lot easier to find stuff with fewer clicks, and crammed more data onto each page. "We've also added some new flavours to our revolutionary 'site skinning' system, so now users can theme the look of the site to their own choice of hardware. Soon we'll publish a guide to let users create their own site skins, and run a competition to choose the best ones…"
Technical Director, Gareth Edwards adds, "We've moved SPOnG onto a heavy-duty SQL database to improve the speed of the site, and we've moved to a more object orientated architecture, so we can continue to improve functionality and add features." But it's not just site visitors who will see improvements, Edwards continues, "We are now working to add greater sophistication to our content syndication and export facilities, so we can be more responsive to our client's requirements."
SPOnG's content clients include Blockbuster Video, Ananova and Woolworths.
SPOnG.com, the Internet Computer Games Database was conceived by Marcus Dyson formerly Amiga Format editor and Team 17 Producer, in 1996. The site aims to catalogue, and offer information on every piece of computer game software for every platform ever released, both current and historical.
