Summary

From the beginning it's clear that Valkyria Revolutions, the next big chapter of the Valkyria series, has lofty goals. You don't keep name-dropping Hamlet with borrowed names and lines of dialogue unless you're aiming big.

Developer Media.Vision is tackling huge themes of revenge, war and mass manipulation. The game starts in the future, with a history lesson looking back on a dark time that saw the land of Elsinore plunged into a bloody and brutal war by a group of five friends hell-bent on revenge. History is, as they say, written by the victors, and Valkyria Revolutions is very interested in examining that through the medium of games.

While strategy remains central to Valkyria Revolutions, with players able to issue orders to AI on the battlefield, there's also a very prevalent streak of action combat running through this series outing. In the heat of combat, players take control of a character to use powerful combos against the enemy and rain destruction down.

Along with a new combat system is a new look, with a painterly style that compliments the classical music composed by Yasunori Mitsuda of Chrono Trigger and Stella Glow fame.

The revolution starts here, but it might not be a glorious one!
