Summary

The Escapists: The Walking Dead Edition brings together two fan favourite hits. Yes, the clue's in the title - it's Team17's indie game about breaking out of prison and Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's phenomenally successful comic, The Walking Dead.

While it might seem like a slightly odd fit at first, these two properties were made for each other. Rick Grimes and his friends are forever finding themselves holed up in one safehouse or another, then realising they're surrounded by the undead and having to make a break for it. Players take on the role of Rick across five different areas, including the Memorial Hospital where Rick first wakes up from his coma, Greene Farm where we meet Hershel and Maggie, the prison, Woodbury and Alexandria.

As in The Escapists, players have a range of tasks to complete, though in this case it's to keep the zombies out rather than keeping guards happy. Around these, though, players have to explore and solve increasingly difficult environment-based puzzles in order for them to find an escape route. It's a sandbox, and exploration is rewarded with objects that can be used to craft, while completing tasks for other survivors can earn coin with which to buy more items.

The game rewards meticulous planning and patience, with players working inch by inch to make their escape a reality. There's tons of depth, and fans of strategy (and, of course, the source material) will be rewarded.
