Summary

Legacy of the Void picks up the StarCraft II saga where the previous expansion, Heart of the Swarm, left off. It serves up a whole new campaign that brings the sci-fi epic to its massive conclusion. Protoss heroes Artanis and Zeratul look to unite their race against the ancient evil from the Void that threatens to overrun the universe, while the fates of Jim Raynor and Kerrigan, Queen of Blades, hang in the balance.

The game comes complete with not one but two brand new modes. On the competitive multiplayer front there's Archon Mode, in which two players share control over a single base and take on another duo in multiplayer action. The idea is that by sharing the duties players can focus on their own areas and execute more intricate strategies.

Also new to the series is Allied Commanders, and objective-based co-op mode. In it, players team up to take on the roles of commanders from the world of StarCraft, each with their own unique abilities. They battle their way through a series of specially-designed scenarios together, levelling up their commanders' abilities as they go.

New additions to the field have been made in multiplayer, too. Zerg swarms get to make use of the return of the Lurker, a classic creature from the original StarCraft that devastates infantry with spines that burst from the ground. The Protoss get the Disruptor, a new weapon that uses energy spikes to wreck ground troops. The Terrans, for their part, have a new technology called Tactical Jump, a teleporter that enables their Battlecruisers to jump to any point on the battlefield.

For existing StarCraft fans, Legacy of the Void will enrich their adventures. Newcomers can get in on the action too, though, as it can be played as a standalone game.
