Mario Party returns to the Wii in its ninth incarnation with new game modes, new battles against more exciting bosses and more playable characters from the Mushroom Kingdom to choose from.

As usual, the problem for the gamer has been caused by Bowser. The big bad one and his friends and minions have stolen all the Mini Stars – so it's up to the player and friends to get them all back in order to become the Super Star.

Mario Party 9 comes with the addition of Mario Party Adventure - a new board game mode that allows up to four people to move through the board in one vehicle. Each player gets to take a turn as “Captain” of each vehicle. The idea is to hit a Dice Block in order to move the party forward; the hope (as in a boardgame like Snakes and Ladders) is that they will land on one of the lucky spaces.

This mode – new to the Mario Party stable of games – enables fast play and, along with Minigames, enables gamers to collaborate or to play against each other in order to get the stolen Mini Stars back from Bowser and restore the night sky.

Mario Party 9 not only comes with the new mode, it also has 80 new Minigames that include making pizzas, escaping haunted mansions and even racing on snowmobiles. When playing on a board, the type of space the vehicle lands on determines what type of Minigame is played.

Another new feature to the series is Boss Battle, a Minigame where up to four players combine their powers to defeat a series of classic Mario boss characters and collect Mini Stars. But, as the name suggests, this is not the end of the matter. Once all the minor characters are defeated the player or players must face Bowser himself.

As well as these new modes and games there is also Free Play mode, and the Extras mode that includes Goomba Bowling and the puzzle-based Castle Clearout.
