Summary

The third in the Resistance series from Insomniac Games for the PS3 sees the dastardly and quite scary Chimeran forces hitting North American in the 1950s.

To be exact, the game begins four years after the action of Resistance 2. It is August 1957 and North America has been lost to the Chimera. In the single-player story the gamer takes the role of dishonourably discharged Sentinel Joseph Capelli. He, like everybody else, is now attempting to hide and, in his case, protect his wife and young son from the deadly foe. However, when Dr. Fyodor Malikov turns up with what could be the answer to the threat and the saving of America, Capelli must make his perilous way from Oklahoma to New York City.

The journey does not only see him encountering the Chimera but also a host of the human remnants. Gameplay brings new (and old) upgradeable weapons including the Bullseye, Magnum, Rossmore, Auger, Marksman and Carbine, as well as the new Mutator (spurting a biological spray making enemies explode); the the Deadeye sniper rifle also comes into the fray. As per Resistance 1 the weapon wheel returns, as does the health bar.

Two-player online and split-screen campaign co-op modes are included as well as a progression-based multiplayer mode.

PlayStation Move is supported, with the PlayStation Sharp Shooter peripheral attachment. Stereoscopic 3D is also in place.

Multiplayer online mode features 16-player competitive with five modes: Team Deathmatch, Chain Reaction, Deathmatch, Breach, and Capture the Flag. There is also a co-operative mode and a variety of global map locations.
