Summary
When it comes to 2D fighting games, there are some real niche Japanese titles that only the very best players seek out. One of these is Guilty Gear, a series bent on over-the-top, psuedo-gothic destruction of opposing players' faces. The graphics might have always looked crude, but it's what's underneath that counts – a rewarding and deep fighting system that works incredibly well for seasoned players.
The series appears to have found a comfortable home on Nintendo's Wii platform, and this makes it the perfect opportunity to engage hardcore fighting aficionados as well as the casual button-smasher. 25 characters are available to control, with various modes including the single-match Versus, challenging Survival and task-based Mission Modes. That's all on top of the involved Story Mode which will certainly push you to wrap your head around some tough opponents.
But those who aren't ready to read time signatures and all that other technical stuff can grab a Wii Remote and Nunchuk, or Classic Controller Pro and just enjoy the crazy artwork and gothic atmosphere that Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus presents.
