Soulcalibur has been a firm favourite since it first appeared on Sega's Dreamcast console 10 years ago. The game combines a dynamic weapon-based fighting with superb visuals, and a gameplay style that is accessible to button mashing beginners while having enough finesse to keep more advanced players satisfied.
Now, for the first time, the Soulcalibur series is making an appearance on the PlayStation Portable. The game is no simple port from the PS2, which had releases of SC2 and 3. This version is based on the gameplay of Soulcalibur 4, and has been built from the ground up for the PSP, and the game is tuned to appeal to beginners in the hope of introducing a new generation of gamers to the pleasures of Soulcalibur. The game features Arcade, Versus and Survival gameplay modes, and controls specially enhanced fro the PSP will enable players to perform Critical Finishes, Soul Crushes and Equipment Destruction.
Players can create and customise their own character, and battle their friends via ad-hoc Wi-Fi. If the gameplay itself is not enough to attract new users, the graphics will be, because Broken Destiny is one of the best looking games the PSP has seen to date. All new lighting effects enable players to battle at different times of day, and the resulting scenes look superb.
The game includes 20 characters, some of who have been available before, and some who are new for this game. There is also has a pleasant surprise for fans of God of War. Kratos, the hero of those games makes an appearance as a playable character in Soulcalibur Broken Destiny. << less
