Summary

With its full set of instruments, Rock Band has been the game of choice for wannabe rockstars the world over. With its full set of instruments, Rock Band has been the game of choice for wannabe rockstars the world over. But those same instruments meant that the game was a console only event, tied to the living room, bedroom or rumpus room by the large and unwieldy accessories. No longer! Now Rock Band has broken free of these limitations, and found its way onto the PlayStation Portable.

Clearly, this means some concessions have been made - you use the PSP's standard buttons to control the instruments, rather than a purpose-made controller. And the game is single player only, so you control only one instrument at a time, switching between tracks using the shoulder buttons. But with your earphones in, that old familiar Rock Band thrill is still there.

The game combines gameplay elements from the original Rock Band and Rock Band 2 - including overdrive and chords. Full band creation and World Tour modes are included too. Players can unlock new clothes and other goodies as they progress through the game, building their playing skills as they go.

The game features 41 tracks, many of them culled from previous home console versions of Rock Band, but with a selection of exclusive new tracks thrown in there too. To make sure that the game keeps giving, users will be able to download more tracks from the PSP online store. << less
