The universe of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 (WH40K) is a dark and brutal one; the forces of humanity must fight a never-ending war on many fronts. The most insidious enemies ranged against them are the forces of Chaos - driven by the four major Gods of Chaos, their armies spread carnage and corruption wherever they tread. Foremost in the defence of the human race are the Space Marines, genetically enhanced warriors equipped with the best weapons and equipment that human scientists can devise. Now THQ have put the fight into your hands with Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command on DS.

You must lead your squad of Space Marines through 15 turn-based strategy missions in fully destructible 3D battlefields using the stylus to move your troops and control their attacks. Each member of your squad has an allocation of action points per round that can be spent on moving or attacking, you can even spend more points on aiming to make your shots more accurate. You have access to over 20 ranged and close combat weapons and can play as one of two chapters of Space Marines in the multiplayer game or even as one of the Chaos legions if you want to aid the attempt to destroy humanity.

Multiplayer options include both ad-hoc and wireless play for up to eight players on two teams; matches can be Chaos v Chaos, Chaos v Humans or Humans v Humans and are fought over nine multiplayer-only maps. You can win multiplayer matches by either holding the opponents' Headquarters for one turn or by the traditional tactic of wiping the enemy from the face of the map. If one player gets wiped out too quickly, they might be able to call on some reinforcements depending on how many HQ buildings their teammates have possession of. The multiplayer experience is rounded out by icon-based communications and online global skill rankings. << less
