Summary

Promising to take you as close to war as you’ll ever want to get, the sequel to the highly popular Operation Flashpoint sees you as a U.S. military unit defending the fictional island of Skira from invading Chinese forces. The island, located North of Japan in all its sandbox glory, is a historical mark of contention between Chinese, Japanese and Russian forces and war is imminent, with the USSR requiring your assistance.

In development for many years, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising includes great detail in both the actions of your men and how the environment works to your advantage. Extensive motion capture has resulted in the weight of real weapons affecting your player movement, and realistic operation of military vehicles.

Unlike many shooting games, you’re required to watch for movement as your enemy is not likely to make themselves noticeable to you. A special ‘Hardcore’ mode removes most of the HUD, forcing you to remember just how full your weapons clip really is before engaging in a firefight.

There are many online modes and multiplayer activities in the game too, including the obligatory co-operative campaign and deathmatches, along with special covert operations that has players infiltrating enemy lines and clearing certain objectives.
