Samurai Shodown V (SSV) is the first instalment in the series since 1999. It was one of the first fighting games to let players battle each other with weapons, and the Samurai Shodown series has long been known for its original gameplay and authentic anime stylisation. SSV offers several new features to fans of the series. Characters can meditate in the heat of battle to affect their stats and can also slow down time for their opponent. Veteran fans will be pleased to know that old favourites make a welcome return, such as the ability to throw down your weapons and fight unarmed.

There are 27 different characters to choose from in SSV, nine of which are completely new to the franchise. There are also brand new sprites that have been hand-drawn both lovingly and in great detail. The game has seen improvements in certain areas, such as a slow-motion feature, so you can marvel at the way you dispatched your last opponent. There are also several all-new game stages and power systems for players to get stuck into. << less
