Summary

They certainly don't make Lego like they used to. Back in the old days, all we had were simple rectangular bricks, a few little yellow dudes with painted-on faces and, if we were really lucky, some wheels so we could build some kind of poor excuse for a car. These days we're spoilt for choice - take Bionicle, for example: a world unto itself, Bionicle tells of the adventures of the inhabitants of the mystical island of Mata Nui, and appears courtesy of a plethora of Lego toys, card games, accessories, a film and - last but not least - this latest video game from EA.

Taking the form of your average 3D platform adventure, Bionicle tells of the adventures of six heroes, bestowed with the greatest of all challenges: to rid the island from its curse of darkness and defeat the evil Makuta. Players take on the role of any one of these characters - known as Toa - and embark on the quest to explore the six elementally-themed regions of the island and break the spell of darkness.

Along the way, a host of dangers, obstacles and environmental hazards get in the way, such as falling rocks, rainforest winds, icicles, and lava falls, as do a great many foul minions of Makuta. Not to worry though, as you can always rely on the unique elemental powers of the Toa and summon blasts of elemental energy to defeat your enemies.

As well as doing battle with evil, throughout the game, there's an assortment of puzzles to solve and things to collect - the latter appearing in the form of Matoran villagers, scattered across Mata Nui and in need of rescue.

Like the toys that inspired it, Bionicle the game is aimed at the younger player and, as such, will appeal to fans, giving them a chance to partake in the adventure for themselves.
